That's why this year, I started prepping two months in advance to make all three of my little's costumes. I know, I know...it was a little ambitious, but after settling on what they wanted to be (kids change their minds approximately 90 times before Halloween) I embarked upon the handmade Halloween costume journey.
It actually wasn't too painful, except for the fact that I may have caused permanent damage to my arm, in the process of hand painting all the stripes on my son's Jack Skellington costume but I'm pretty pleased with the results.
I gave myself a budget of $30 for all three costumes. A while back I visited that store with the little red circle inside a bigger red circle and almost fell over at how much one costume cost. So, I said: "I'll make all three for that price!" (we've already established that I have an overly ambitious brain) and I set off to work. A tulle skirt may have been cut up in the process but I reused, recycled and found some very inexpensive cotton fabric to work with.
And after over a month of work...voila!
Pikachu, Jack Skellington and a little Witch costume:
