Helpful Hints About Drop Clothes

So after finding out my rug clearly didn't match my chevron pillows at all, I moved those beauties up to my bedroom and bought some new 20X20 pillow inserts. I stared at them for 3 days racking my brains out, trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do with them! I finally incorporated a couple of ideas together, drew a horrible sketch and moved on to step 3: decide upon my fabric of choice. Most of you mothers know how much abuse family room couch throw pillows withstand, so I knew the fabric had to be durable but embroiderable (I know that's not a word but I'm totally coining it). I thought the most logical choice would be canvas but when I looked online it was around $8 a yard. I know that is quite normal but it just wasn't cheap enough for me so I went with the canvas drop cloth option. Mine came in a 5X8 size for $10 at Home Depot! Can you believe that?! The drop cloth was a little too brown for my taste so I decided I was going to bleach it. The process was not THAT bad actually. With help from Miss Mustard Seed, I was ready to go in no time. There is so much information on bleaching and working with drop clothes. I can't wait to get started on these pillows but in the meantime I thought I'd post an HGTV article written by Marian of Miss Mustard Seed Interiors (who is my hero, seriously) about bleaching drop cloths.

You can click HERE to read it...just in case you are looking for a more cost efficient way to reupholster or cover something.

Happy Crafting! :)
